New Canadian Standard for Sustainable Events

The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) has just published a new standard entitled “Z2010 – Requirements and guidance for organizers of sustainable events“. The number 2010 refers to the standard being developed as a legacy project of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It aims to assist organizers of cultural, sporting and business events plan their events by integrating environmental, economic and social sustainability principles. For the ‘sport’ event sector, the Z2010 guidance document dovetails with the Sustainable Sport & Event Toolkit (SSET), meant to be a practical how-to resource for organizers to work towards Z2010 compliance.

The UBC Centre for Sport & Sustainability plans to promote the use of Z2010 among Canadian sports events and provide complementary research and education. It will also work with the UBC Athletics & Recreation department to test-pilot Z2010 with its Varsity Sports Events.

More information can be found on this CSA News Release. Z2010 is available for purchase on the CSA site.
