Energy Management Internship

Description

This internship will require the successful candidate to work with Athletics and Recreation’s smart meter data and to identify energy saving opportunities in each facility.

Duration

January 2013 – April 2013, 10 hours per week

Responsibilities include
  • Analyse facility usage trends and seek out opportunities to reduce consumption through the efficient operation of lighting, equipment, etc.
  • The student will work closely with each facility manager to implement opportunities identified in the analysis of smart meter data
  • Work in conjunction with the UBC Sustainability Office to implement new energy monitoring software into Athletic & Recreation’s operations
  • Ensure comprehension and training of new software for all facility managers
Requirements
  • Experience with data collection and facility operations
  • Understanding of energy management practices and the ability to demonstrate saving opportunities
  • Proficient with MS Office and Excel
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent team player, and capability to work independently
  • Highly motivated and dependable
  • Registered as an undergraduate or graduate student

Sustainability Marketing Internship

Description

The successful candidate will work to develop and promote more sustainable transportation options at UBC Athletics & Recreation events.

Duration

January 2013 – April 2013, 10 hours per week

Responsibilities include
  • Identify opportunities to host the Thunderbird Bike Valet at specific Athletic and Recreation events and continue to find ways to promote cycling
  • Develop a behaviour change strategy aimed at increasing usage of the Skwez Ride Share program
  • Identify opportunities to improve the communication of sustainable transportation options through all Athletic & Recreation channels (websites, maps, brochures etc.)
Requirements
  • Knowledge in marketing athletics events
  • Understanding of environmental sustainability issues in sport
  • Versatile with capacity to manage multiple projects
  • Strong communication skills – verbal and written
  • Excellent team player, and capability to work independently
  • Highly motivated and dependable
  • Registered as an undergraduate or graduate student
